Enterprise Hotel Booking Enhancement

Why this matters: This project demonstrates my ability to quickly onboard to a new domain and deliver high quality, production ready designs under tight timelines while serving as the sole designer across multiple teams.

Overview

Rainfocus

Problem Statement & Summary:

This project was my first initiative after transitioning from the Analytics team to the Registration and Hotel Management product team at Rainfocus, during a period when I was the sole designer supporting both teams. The challenge was a high risk booking flow that required attendees to cancel an existing hotel reservation before browsing alternatives, often resulting in lost reservations during high demand events. I led the design of a self service hotel swap experience that allowed attendees to search and confirm a new booking while safely retaining their original reservation, reducing user frustration, support escalations, and manual client intervention.

Discovery & Context Building

As a new designer on this team and domain, I moved quickly to understand both user pain points and existing system constraints. I partnered with client success stakeholders to review real support scenarios and failure cases. I also conducted a focused competitive analysis across travel and booking platforms to study established patterns for modifying confirmed reservations without introducing risk or confusion.

System Design & Validation

I designed two prototype approaches modeled after proven booking experiences, each allowing attendees to browse and select alternative hotels while holding their existing reservation. I conducted moderated usability testing using an A and B testing approach to assess clarity, confidence, and perceived risk. As consistent patterns emerged, I consolidated findings into a single solution and iterated further to validate edge cases and user understanding. Throughout the process, I collaborated closely with the Product Manager and architect engineer to align on feasibility, scope, and system behavior.

User Test A - Prototype

User Test B - Prototype

Outcome

The final solution enabled attendees to safely search and swap hotel bookings without risking reservation loss. This reduced dependency on cancellation flows, decreased support escalations, and improved the overall reliability of the booking experience for high demand events. Designs were delivered development ready with clearly defined interaction states and logic. Clients reported a consistent month over month decrease in attendee help center calls after launch, driven by a safer self service booking flow that reduced reservation loss.
