Enterprise Gamification Admin Redesign

Why this matters: This project demonstrates my ability to translate real-world operational complexity into scalable systems, lead discovery through direct field research, and design flexible admin tools that perform under enterprise scale and live-event constraints.

Overview

Rainfocus

Problem Statement & Summary:

RainFocus Games is an engagement feature used by enterprise clients to incentivize attendee participation during live events. While effective for attendees, the admin experience had become increasingly difficult to manage at scale. Salesforce, a heavy user of the feature, surfaced major challenges validating achievements across thousands of attendees and complex criteria. The goal of this project was to design a new admin experience to make validation faster, clearer, and scalable for large, high-pressure events.

Field Discovery & Immersion

Discovery took place on site at Salesforce Trailblazer DX 2024 in San Francisco, where my Product Manager and I supported attendee validation in real time for over 5000 attendees across hundreds of sessions and live demos. We experienced firsthand the friction administrators faced when validating achievements, including searching for individual attendees, checking multiple data sources, and dealing with delayed or unreliable scan data. This immersion revealed how fragmented data, time pressure, and unclear progress visibility created stress for both admins and attendees, making validation slow, error prone, and difficult to scale at enterprise events.

System Design & Validation

Based on field insights, I reframed the problem from individual attendee lookup to scalable validation across complex game configurations. I designed a unified system that organized gamification data by game, achievement, and qualification status, supporting attendee, session, meeting, survey, and exhibitor based criteria in one dynamic view. The design focused on surfacing the minimum information needed to confirm eligibility, disqualifiers, and reward status at a glance. I iterated on this system using the most common achievement configurations and validated prototypes with multiple enterprise clients to ensure flexibility across different event and organizational models before finalizing the information architecture.

Outcome

The redesigned admin experience shipped in April 2024 and significantly reduced the time and effort required to validate attendee achievements during live events. Admin users could now quickly search, filter, and confirm qualification without drilling into individual attendee records or cross checking multiple data sources. The solution supported a wide range of achievement configurations while remaining consistent and reusable from a development standpoint. Internal teams also gained a clearer framework for expanding gamification features without increasing admin complexity.

What this unlocked

This work established a scalable foundation for enterprise gamification within Rainfocus and shifted the product from manual validation to system driven confidence. It enabled event teams to operate more efficiently during high pressure moments while improving trust with attendees and clients. For the organization, it created a reusable pattern for validating complex criteria across future features, reinforcing Rainfocus ability to support large scale, high stakes enterprise events.
